My Mantra: “Be kind to yourself; you are growing.”

Hi! I’m Mizgin; a 25-year old teacher living in the UK. I was born and raised in London and moved to Essex two years ago.

I have suffered with migraines ever since I was a teenager, but it got worse in the summer of 2018. I lost vision in my left eye for a few minutes and panicked so much that I was rushed to the hospital. Following countless scans and consultations, I was diagnosed with hemiplegic migraine with aura.

Living with migraine has been a real challenge for me, but I have developed lots of different strategies to help cope with it. The biggest challenge, however, has been to get the understanding and the support I need around me. Unfortunately, a lot of people still don’t quite see how migraines can affect you – and that’s something I’m trying to change.

I also have a history of anxiety, PTSD and a minor heart condition. My heart condition often causes palpitations and chest pains, which doesn’t help with the anxiety and the panic disorder. Sometimes, it really does feel like a vicious cycle and they keep triggering each other.


However, I am a very spiritual person and have developed a huge passion for mindfulness, meditation, massage and yoga. I do believe that these have provided me with some relief over the last few years and am open to exploring what else is out there. I’d like to believe that I’m still on this ‘spiritual journey.’

Of course, being an English teacher, I have also always had a passion for writing and that has brought me here! I am very excited at this opportunity to share my experiences and hopefully be of benefit to anyone out there. Writing has been the one thing that has helped me the most. I think it’s the best way in which I can express myself and my experiences freely. To put it simply, I think we need to discuss anxiety, chronic pain and migraines more openly, frequently and freely. Mental health is just as important as physical health and yet it is still considered a taboo subject in so many places. I honestly think we can be part of a change and help break the taboo and support each other in raising awareness, and of course, healing.
